In the Brazilian presidential election, right-wing senator Flavio Bolsonaro unexpectedly led left-wing president Lula, who is seeking re-election. Bloomberg analysis points out that Brazil's path towards China is facing variables.
According to Bloomberg, the impact of this election will far exceed Brazil.
If Bolsonaro wins, it may accelerate Trump's process of re strengthening America's dominant position in the Americas. Previously, conservatives had achieved victories in recent elections in Colombia, Chile, and Peru.
Under Lula's leadership, Brazil has always been one of the few boycotters of Trump's so-called "Donroe Doctrine" in the Western Hemisphere, and is also a representative country of Latin America that is increasingly closer to China.
Trump is trying to reverse this trend by intervening in Brazilian affairs and supporting Flavio Bolsonaro, who has promised to push Brazil closer to the United States.
Flavio received 47% of the vote in the first round of voting on Sunday (October 4th), slightly higher than Lula's 45%; The remaining candidates received less than 5% of the vote and were unable to enter the next round of competition.
The two will determine the winner in the second round of voting on October 25th.
